Views from the East - 2
A pre-World War 1 postcard - note the absence of the War Memorial - showing a wider view of the church and adjacent buildings. This card has a postmark date of 1906.
These two Frith postcards, identical except for the colouring, appear in the company's catalogue with a date of 1922
Another picture of much the same view, this time produced by Judges. This card is postmarked 195? with a George VI stamp.
Another Frith postcard, this one dated in the catalogue as 1913. It bears a 1914 postmark. The photographer was standing on the other side of the bridge over the River Cerne.
The same view in 2007. Note the changes to the buildings at the end of the road, the reinforced river bank under the bridge, and the amount of tree growth in the churchyard.
This view shows the church in the distance, as seen from the grounds of Charminster house. In the 1950s and 1960s the Village Fete was held here each year.
Taken from almost the same position in 2010. The tree have grown, almost completely obstructing the view of the house. The church tower cannot be seen at all. The fence in the foreground is still there, but the wooden structure has been replaced by barbed wire. |
